Bonifacio water treatment plant outfalls into the bottleneck

CLIENT: COMMUNE DE BONIFACIO

YEAR(S): 2017

LOCATION: BONIFACIO, CORSE (FRANCE)

MISSIONS:

  • Environnemental baseline survey
  • Monitoring campaigns
  • Sampling missions
  • Mapping of the seafloor

BACKGROUND:

The municipality of Bonifacio wanted to modify the release mode of the water treated by its wastewater treatment plant. These releases flowed into the bottleneck of the port of Bonifacio. This project needed to establish in 2014 an environmental baseline survey of the Bonifacio bottleneck.

Following this survey, two monitoring campaigns of the receiving environment were carried out. The studied compartments were:

  • The quality of surface water
  • The quality of the superficial sediments
  • The description of remarkable biocenose funds (scuba diving)

At the end of each monitoring campaign, outlooks and recommendations were presented to improve the transition between offshore water and the watershed represented by the Bonifacio bottleneck.

In this context, in 2017, CREOCEAN carried out the cartography of the biocenose of the Bonifacio bottleneck and implanted fixed beacons aiming at materializing the limits of the Posidonia meadow.
