Creocean in the Marquesas Islands - Pukatai Program
Creocean has taken part, since March 2015, to the creation of 6 Educational Marine Areas (EMA) in the Marquesas Islands. These maritime coastal zones are managed by primary school pupils in the framework of a civic action project for the protection and management of the marine environment.
As part of this project, Creocean team, coordinated by Julien Guillet, head of the Pacific agency, involved children in the development of a protocol and realization of an ecological survey of the EMA . Our team also explained to the children the scientific method and presented the main results of their study that showed a very positive ecological health of EMAs.
The Pukatai program has an international reputation thanks to the World Congress of Sydney Parks in November 2014 and Oceania Congress in April 2015 where 21 presentations were made, for example by the President of the Marquesas cities community and the Minister of Culture and the environment.
