Evaluation and Monitoring of Services Provided by the Protected Area- Great South of Haiti
CLIENT: BANQUE INTERAMERICANA DE DEVELOPPEMENT
PROJECT DATE: 2018
- Monitoring system implementation for environmental action at the protected area's level
- Producing knowledge of ecosystems and biodiversity to protect
In order to meet its commitments made on the biodiversity protection at the Nagoya Conference in 2010, Haiti has set up a protected areas network on its territory, both terrestrial and marine.
Haiti's protected areas are now in a structuring phase. The National Agency for Protected Areas (ANAP) and the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) must have consolidated tools to carry out their task of preserving the country's biodiversity and build a management strategy for these protected areas. On the other hand, today there is no common indicator grid or tool to monitor the protected area's action and thus measure the efforts made by Haiti to protect its natural ecosystems.
The MDE, through the ANAP, has called on the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to help build an environmental management strategy for national protected areas and to improve the ecosystems knowledge that they aim to protect.
